The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg has been delivering Executive Master of Business Administration (Executive MBA) programmes since 1977 and is proud to have built a considerable reputation in this field. The School is awarded a European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Our Executive MBA participants must be educated to an appropriate academic standard and have significant managerial experience in either the private or public sector. They aspire to progress their careers and are prepared to make a significant investment in achieving this qualification. They all hold responsible senior positions and intend to continue working, while attending the programme.
Programme designed to meet participants' needs
Our Executive MBA programme has been designed to meet the participants’ needs. It is a part-time management programme conducted in English over two years that inspires students to access the latest thinking within management – and then challenges them to consolidate and apply these insights to their daily work. The programme assists in both setting direction through these difficult economic conditions as well as providing knowledge and skills to develop and execute strategic initiatives within the participants’ organisations. We like to believe that we have designed our Executive MBA programme with a few unique features that set us apart and appeal to our students. We deliver our programme with a broad, international faculty supported by top-level lecturers. We have taken great care to adapt the learning process to the needs of managers in demanding positions.
Two valuable years including two separate one-week residencies in Asia
Our programme includes two separate one-week residencies at our partner Universities; the Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India. In addition, spending two calendar years on the programme will help you to create a highly valuable personal and business network and let you become part of a distinguished alumini network.
The Executive MBA programme at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg awards you an academic degree equivalent of 60 ECTS.
What is an Executive MBA?
Executive MBA is a type of MBA (Master of Business Administration) specially designed and adapted for managers with the appropriate academic and professional experience in either the private or public sector.
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) originated in America over a hundred years ago and has now reached worldwide recognition. In the 1990s the Executive MBA programmes begun to be established outside North America. Accredited business schools worldwide now run more than 240 Executive MBA programmes.
Executive MBA programmes differ from other kinds of MBA programmes in the following ways:
- Unlike full-time programmes students continue to work while they study and are generally older and more experienced,
- Unlike most distance learning programmes the direct personal interaction in the classroom and in study groups is considered critical to the learning experience,
- Unlike other kinds of MBA programmes, the participants of an Executive MBA start the programme in the middle of their career. This allows them to share valuable experiences from different positions from a large variety of professional backgrounds.
- Executive MBA programmes usually offer additional support for students, including staff support, meals, and other amenities, so participants with busy schedules can focus on learning.
